Talking Turkey At The Butterball Turkey Talk-Line

Every so often, as a journalist, a rare and beautiful opportunity comes across the ol’ transom. Like an invitation to spend a day at Butterball University.

Butterball University. Heard of it? That’s where the Butterball Turkey Talk-Line operators–who number nearly 50–are trained each season, so that they can answer the millions of, yes, fowl calls from consumers. They simply call 1-800-BUTTERBALL, or send an email or tweet to @butterball, and all of their holiday questions are answered. Turkey ones, at least.

If you’re a fan of “The West Wing” you’ve heard of it. And even if you aren’t a fan of “The West Wing,” I recommend the Turkey Talk-Line Clip for annual viewing.

The hotline is actually located in an office park in Naperville. I trekked up there a couple of weeks ago to find out what they teach at this esteemed university, and I wrote about it for Midwest Living. Check it out!
