Ghostwriting
Everybody has a story, but they don’t always have the time, skill or desire to write it down, themselves. That’s where I come in. With nearly 20 years of experience as a professional journalist, I have the curiosity, expertise and discipline to draw out and develop the stories that make us all who we are, on both a personal and professional level.
In the last ten years, I’ve ghostwritten books for business professionals working in the realms of health and fitness, real estate and wine. I’ve consulted on books and contributed chapters about the future of the advertising industry. I’ve worked with families to record their stories for future generations. I’ve created memoir books for brides that capture a love story. And I’ve worked with CEOs, marketing executives and business leaders to write blogs and articles about their industry.
If you’re reading this and considering hiring a ghostwriter, the odds are you’re good at what you do, whether that’s selling real estate, leading an advertising and marketing firm, playing the role of son/grandson/daughter/granddaughter, wedding planning or making widgets. You should keep doing that, by all means. And I’ll handle the writing. With your help, of course.
Ghostwriting a family memoir
Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of inquiries from people searching for a ghostwriter to write a book about their family’s history. These are meaningful projects that preserve essential stories for future generations, and they’re an honor to be a part of. If this is something you’re considering, here are answers to some common questions.
As a ghostwriter, how do you capture a person’s essence and voice?
I spend hours with the subject, interviewing them about their life, their history, their accomplishments, their challenges and so much more. I record and transcribe every meeting and return to the recordings and transcripts many times throughout the writing process. Along the way, I become familiar with an individual’s stories, as well as the way they tell those stories. With a ghostwritten work, the voice is as important as the narrative itself.
How do ghostwriters get paid?
After we agree on how to approach the project, I’ll establish a payment schedule that includes an initial payment, due upon signing, followed by monthly payments you can plan for.
How much do ghostwriters charge?
Ghostwriters’ rates run the gamut, with some experienced professionals charging more than $125,000 for a full-length book. Recognizing that not everyone has a six-figure budget, I’ve devised three different approaches to ghostwriting projects to make them available to more people. My fees start at $5,000 for a highlight reel of family memories and range beyond $60,000 for more involved memoirs. I believe that every family has a story worth preserving, and I’m happy to be a part of that process at all levels.
